In a significant step towards addressing the pressing challenges of climate change, Investible, an Asia-Pacific-based early-stage venture capital firm, and Mandiri Capital Indonesia (MCI), the corporate venture capital arm of Indonesia’s largest financial institution, Bank Mandiri, have announced the launch of a new climate tech-focused fund. This joint venture, known as the Mandiri-Investible Global Climate Tech Fund, will seek to identify, invest in, and support promising climate tech startups across Southeast Asia, Oceania, and beyond.
The fund, which will have a target size of US$100 million, will focus on investing in early-stage companies developing innovative solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This includes startups working on solutions in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable transportation, energy efficiency, carbon capture and storage, and climate-resilient agriculture.
The partnership between Investible and MCI brings together two leading players in the venture capital and climate tech sectors. Investible has a proven track record of investing in early-stage climate tech companies, with a portfolio that includes companies such as Sun Cable, a developer of world-scale solar and battery storage projects, and EverAg, a company that is developing a new generation of climate-resilient crops. MCI, on the other hand, has a deep understanding of the Indonesian market and a strong network of corporate investors.
The launch of the Mandiri-Investible Global Climate Tech Fund is a significant development for the climate tech sector in Southeast Asia. The region is one of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, but it is also home to a growing number of innovative startups developing solutions to these challenges. The fund will provide these startups with the capital and expertise they need to scale up their businesses and make a real impact on the planet.
“We are excited to partner with MCI to launch this new fund and to invest in the next generation of climate tech leaders,” said Rod Bristow, CEO of Investible. “The Mandiri-Investible Global Climate Tech Fund will play a critical role in supporting the development of innovative solutions to climate change in Southeast Asia and beyond.”
“This partnership is a strategic move for MCI to further strengthen our commitment to sustainability and to support the development of climate tech solutions in Indonesia and the region,” said Dennis Pratistha, Chief Investment Officer of MCI. “We believe that the Mandiri-Investible Global Climate Tech Fund will make a significant contribution to addressing the climate crisis.”
The launch of the Mandiri-Investible Global Climate Tech Fund is a positive step towards building a more sustainable future. By investing in climate tech, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous world for all.
