In India’s evolving healthcare ecosystem, where diagnostic accuracy and ethical compliance are increasingly critical, Dr. Bhuvan Nagpal has emerged as a visionary leader redefining laboratory medicine and oral pathology. At 37 years of age, he stands at the intersection of science, governance, and healthcare entrepreneurship, building institutions that address long-standing diagnostic gaps, particularly in semi-urban and rural regions.
Dr. Nagpal began his entrepreneurial journey in 2011 at the age of 23, driven by firsthand exposure to the lack of specialised diagnostic services outside metropolitan centres. His early initiative, the Ravijyoti Oral Pathology Clinic in his hometown, laid the foundation for a career rooted in precision diagnostics and patient-centric care. From the beginning, his vision extended beyond individual practice toward building systems that could deliver consistency, quality, and accountability.
Academically, Dr. Nagpal possesses a rare multidisciplinary foundation. Trained as an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist, Clinical Biochemist, Medico-Legal Consultant, and healthcare administrator, his education spans dentistry, pathology, laboratory medicine, healthcare management, medico-legal systems, and law. This diverse training shaped his belief that healthcare must not only be accurate but also ethical, accessible, and legally sound.
Instead of pursuing a conventional clinical pathway, Dr. Nagpal immersed himself in laboratory medicine at NABL- and NABH-accredited diagnostic centres. His exposure covered hematology, clinical biochemistry, histopathology, cytopathology, molecular diagnostics, laboratory administration, and quality management systems. His leadership abilities soon propelled him into roles such as Laboratory Administrator, Quality Manager, and Project In-Charge for setting up diagnostic facilities across multiple towns.
By his late twenties, Dr. Nagpal assumed responsibility as Laboratory Director and Quality Head at Tohana Manglam Diagnostics in rural Haryana, serving as an NABL-authorised signatory for a wide scope of investigations. This phase reinforced his belief that quality healthcare infrastructure could thrive even outside large cities when built on strong systems and governance.
In 2016, Dr. Nagpal founded the Centre for Oral Pathology & Maxillofacial Diagnostics (COPMD™) in Hisar, marking a landmark moment in Indian diagnostic medicine. Conceived as India’s first dedicated oral pathology referral centre, COPMD™ provides precision-driven diagnostic interpretation of oral and maxillofacial biopsies and cytology specimens. The centre supports clinicians nationwide, enabling early detection and accurate diagnosis of oral cancers, potentially malignant disorders, odontogenic tumours, cystic lesions, and complex head-and-neck conditions.
While building COPMD™, Dr. Nagpal identified a deeper systemic issue—the under-recognition and limited professional scope of oral pathologists despite their extensive training. Motivated by this challenge, he engaged regulatory authorities through formal representations, RTIs, and policy discussions. These efforts culminated in the formation of the Practicing Oral Pathologists & Microbiologists Association (POPMA™) in 2023. As Founder-President, he has led POPMA™ as a national movement advocating professional recognition, policy inclusion, and ethical practice.
Another defining dimension of Dr. Nagpal’s work is Ravijyoti MedLab & Medico-Legal Consultancy (RJML2™), a venture that integrates diagnostic science with medico-legal consultancy. Through RJML2™, he provides diagnostic audits, medico-legal documentation, expert opinions, and compliance advisory services to hospitals, laboratories, insurers, and legal institutions, reinforcing accountability across healthcare systems.
Beyond entrepreneurship, Dr. Nagpal is deeply committed to education and mentorship. Through the Academy of Oral Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and the Gurukul of Oral Pathology Education, he mentors young professionals, guided by the belief that knowledge must remain accessible. With over 65 research publications, 15 textbooks, and national recognition including Entrepreneur of the Year 2024, his journey continues to shape India’s diagnostic future with clarity and conviction.
