Finding Her Voice — And Helping Others Find Theirs

When the classroom failed to make English come alive, Sudipta Kesar built her own stage — and invited the world to speak up.

The first thing you notice about Sudipta Kesar is her calm confidence — the kind of assurance that makes you feel instantly at ease. It’s the same atmosphere she creates for her students at Sudipta’s English Academy, a homegrown initiative launched in April 2023. But behind the polished lessons and lively sessions lies a personal mission: to help people not just learn English, but own it.

Her love for the language began long before the academy existed. As a child, English films and music fascinated her, sparking a curiosity that would never fade. Yet, she saw how the system failed countless learners. After years in classrooms, many could still not speak fluently, trapped by fear of mistakes and a focus on rules over real communication.

“I knew I had to do something different,” she says. And she did. Armed with a Master’s Level Certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the London College of Teachers and Trainers, Sudipta set out to create a space where learning was flexible, engaging, and designed for the realities of modern life.

Here, classes often start at 8 PM — perfect for working professionals who can’t commit to daytime schedules. Small batches mean personalised attention, while interactive activities and role-plays keep lessons lively. It’s not about memorising grammar; it’s about using English naturally, in real conversations.

Her approach struck a chord, but it wasn’t without challenges. Many students arrived hoping for overnight fluency. Sudipta’s answer was gentle but firm: “Language is like any skill — it grows with practice. You can’t rush it, but you can enjoy the process.” That mindset shift became a cornerstone of her teaching.

Determined to deliver a professional experience from day one, she invested in tools like pen tablets, high-quality cameras, and studio lighting for her online sessions. Her active presence on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Google gave her academy a voice in the crowded digital space, attracting learners from far beyond her city.

The timing couldn’t have been better. In a job market where poor communication skills can stall careers, Sudipta’s English Academy became a lifeline. Students walked in hesitant and left with the confidence to speak up in meetings, ace interviews, and connect with others on a global stage.

Recognition soon followed. In 2024, Sudipta received the India Excellence Award for Outstanding Excellence in English Language Education — a moment she calls “both humbling and energising.” But for her, it’s just the beginning. Plans are already in motion to introduce personality development, public speaking, and accent training, creating a comprehensive growth platform for her students.

For Sudipta, the academy is more than a business. It’s a promise to her learners — that with the right guidance, patience, and courage, they can find their voice and change their future. “When my students speak confidently,” she says, “it’s not just their victory — it’s mine too.”
