In the evolving tapestry of India’s design ecosystem, some stories rise above the ordinary, not just for their artistic brilliance but for the deeper philosophy that shapes them. One such success story is that of 60 Degree Interior, an enterprise founded in 2006 by Mr. Jayesh Megnani, later joined by Mr. Nikhil Darji as partner and principal designer. Today, their firm is a reflection of passion, discipline, and timeless creativity, having transformed hundreds of spaces across India and the world.
The Spark of Creation
The genesis of 60 Degree Interior is deeply entwined with the personality and vision of its founder, Mr. Jayesh Megnani—a polymath in every sense. A confluence of four distinct artistic domains, Jayesh is not just an interior designer, but also a Vastu expert, painter, and sculptor. This multidimensional grounding lends a rare versatility to his work. His professional journey began under the mentorship of renowned conservation architect Vikas Dilawari, where he imbibed the value of heritage, precision, and timeless aesthetics. But Jayesh was always a seeker—especially a seeker of freedom, which he believes is the cornerstone of entrepreneurship.
Fuelled by the vision to create not just beautiful spaces but spaces that heal, energize and elevate, he took the entrepreneurial plunge in 2006 and founded 60 Degree Interior.
A significant chapter began in 2018, when Mr. Nikhil Darji, a talented designer known for mastering large luxurious spaces, joined the firm as a partner. Nikhil brought with him an eye for detail, team management acumen, and a philosophy of balancing functionality with flamboyance. Together, the duo formed a synergy that would soon carve a niche across the industry.
From Modest Beginnings to a Global Presence
What started as a Mumbai-based interior firm steadily grew in its reputation for timely delivery, cost-effective execution, and deep-rooted aesthetics. Early projects gave way to expansive ventures across India, and soon the firm landed its first international project in Qatar in 2013—a landmark moment that validated their global appeal.
From there, the journey only soared higher, with successful projects in Oman and Switzerland, while continuing to hold strong ground across Indian cities. As of today, the firm executes projects totaling over 50,000 square feet annually—a feat made possible by their structured workflow, deep design thinking, and ever-growing clientele.
A Philosophy Grounded in Culture and Ethics
One of the defining aspects of 60 Degree Interior is its unique design philosophy. While they admire Gothic architecture for its grandeur, their core lies in blending luxury and modernity with Indian ethnic elements. This conscious merging creates designs that are both timeless and rooted, allowing clients to experience sophistication without losing cultural connect.
More interestingly, the firm is also known for its integration of Vastu Shastra, a rare offering in the modern design market. “Many of our clients have returned with stories of how aligning their space with Vastu principles brought a positive change in their lives,” shares Jayesh. However, they emphasize that functionality and aesthetics are never compromised in this process.
Commitment Beyond Commerce
Jayesh’s journey is not limited to just bricks and beauty. A man of heart, he has long been associated with the Indian Army in Kashmir, Leh, and Ladakh, undertaking numerous CSR initiatives for the welfare of local communities. His work with the army is a quiet testament to his belief in using design and resources for societal upliftment.
In Mumbai too, the firm has contributed to community spaces and supported initiatives for the elderly and underprivileged. For 60 Degree Interior, success is not only measured in square feet delivered, but in smiles generated and lives touched.
Crafting Stories Through Spaces
When asked about a project close to their heart, both Jayesh and Nikhil recall a recently completed 2000 sq. ft apartment in Mumbai designed for a joint family of three generations. “Designing for a multi-generational family is not just about layout. It’s about **understanding individual needs, safety concerns for elders, playful zones for children, and tranquil spaces for adults—all in harmony,” explains Nikhil.
What made the project unforgettable was a heartfelt call from the family’s 96-year-old patriarch, Mr. Manu Kumar R. Shah, who expressed his joy and gratitude for the design that blended emotion, utility, and beauty. “That moment defined why we do what we do,” says Jayesh with pride.
The Challenges of a Creative Entrepreneur
Despite the accolades, the journey was never free of challenges. “Design is about creativity, but implementation is about logistics, labour management, cost, and deadlines,” says Jayesh. In the early years, one of the biggest hurdles was constraining creativity within budgetary limitations.
However, with experience came wisdom. The team developed an internal system for estimating, budgeting, labour management, and progress tracking. Today, their efficiency lies not just in artistic brilliance, but also in professional reliability.
Their secret? A simple but powerful mantra: PPCC – Passion, Perseverance, Creativity, Communication. These four pillars have kept them going strong for nearly two decades.
Entrepreneurship as a Way of Being
To Jayesh, entrepreneurship is not a profession; it’s a lifestyle—an embodiment of freedom, ownership, and continuous learning. His personality—marked by intuitive design sensibility and unshakable calm—has helped shape the brand’s ethos. Nikhil, on the other hand, is a doer—a man of action, known for his discipline, punctuality, and field execution skills. Together, they balance vision and action, creativity and control.
They draw inspiration from design legends like Ms. Sunita Kohli and Mr. Sanjay Puri—both of whom reflect a spirit of Indian authenticity and fearless innovation. The duo also attributes a large part of their success to networking, attending design summits, and staying actively engaged with both clients and communities.
Designing for the Future: A 60 Crore Vision
As they look ahead, the firm is already planning a bigger leap. By 2027, they aim to reach a turnover of ₹60 crore and establish design experiences that bring indigenous Indian luxury to every home.
The firm is also attuned to the changing currents of architecture, especially the rising focus on green and sustainable design. “Designers today must be sensitive to nature. Minimalism, sustainability, and resource optimization are not trends—they are responsibilities,” emphasizes Jayesh.
60 Degree Interior has already begun adopting eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient lighting systems, and waste-conscious construction methods. They believe the future lies in designs that celebrate Earth, not exploit it.
Understanding People: The Heart of Good Design
Beyond materials, textures, or blueprints, both founders emphasize the role of human psychology in design. “Clients may not always articulate what they want. You must be able to read between the lines—to understand not just what they want, but why they want it,” Nikhil shares.
The firm maintains a culture of deep listening, where every client interaction is a step toward decoding a lifestyle, not just a layout. They believe great design lies in the details, but also in empathy.
Lessons from the Journey
The entrepreneurial journey of Jayesh and Nikhil has left them with several life lessons, the most important being consistency, resilience, and self-belief. “In design, as in life, details matter. Small changes can have big impacts,” says Jayesh.
They also caution budding architects against over-dependence on technology and AI tools. “Yes, tools are great accelerators. But the soul of design is still human. The new generation must not forget the power of memory, imagination, and the irreplaceable human touch,” Jayesh advises.
Words to the Next Generation
Their message to aspiring designers is clear:
“Use every tool available to you. Leverage AI, explore design platforms, follow global trends. But never forget that true creativity is born from human experience, observation, and memory. Design is not just about looking good—it’s about feeling right. Practice, observe, and create with honesty.”
From crafting humble homes to luxurious penthouses, from Indian apartments to international villas, 60 Degree Interior has built more than spaces—they’ve built experiences. In a world of fleeting trends, their journey is a testament to the timelessness of vision, value, and veracity.
And as they march forward toward their 60-crore dream, one thing is certain—the world will keep watching, as 60 Degree Interior continues to transform not just interiors, but the very way we experience space.
